How To Win At Poker
When it comes to finding out how to win at poker, for sure everyone has their own theories about poker and how to win at it. Everbody wants to learn how to win at poker and they are sure that their methods will win out over everyone else's, just one minor fact remains, and that is; not everyone wins.
When you think about it, if one person is to win, then everyone else in the game (in fact the whole rest of the playing table) needs to lose. Everybody thinks their theory is the winning one and if you are going to beat the going theory and win the game, yours has to be the better one and a number of factors now come into play to see who will reign as the victor...you or the other guy with the better theory.
Your theory may be sound and have good promise, but it still is at the mercy of the numbers of combinations and factors that abound in the game of poker, so that boils down to the basic tenet that there is no particular means or theory that you can use that will allow you to win at poker.
Take for example, the fact that if a player started out with a certain spread of cards and won the hand with that combination; and then was redealt the exact same hand the next round, he would not necessarily win again because different factors and combinations exist in every round so that his hands, though identical, are not subject to the same conditions each time.
Then there are other conditions remaining like the final three cards that that player will get, (or in the case of Texas Holdem...the whole table will get), and then figure in the weaknesses of the other players, or their strong points, the number of players around the table may change, and finally...someone else simply may have a better hand..
And that's just the beginning. Luck has a way of involving itself in every gambling game, not just poker. You can study all you want on how to win at poker, but if the cards are dealt in such a way that you just do not get a hand that anything can be done with, then your lack of luck will certainly have an impact on that hand. Some folks will argue that point, but the fact of the matter is that there is a certain amount of luck operating in every hand that you have no control over.
But, let's not dwell on that. Moving on, one of the biggest factors that can influence how to win at poker, is your skill level. That is one factor you do have control over and the one factor that can make or break a hand, no matter how it is dealt...and can assure you of winning the pot.
You will certainly lose the majority of the hands you play at poker if you have not developed your skills, and no amount of knowledge, book learning or experience can make up for that lack of skill. The ideal situation is to practice as much as you possibly can every chance you get, and master your strengths so they work to your advantage, and try to get rid of your weaknesses so they do not interfere with your winning.
When you have mastered all of the above and know how to win at poker, then it is just a matter of time and endless practice that will place you up there with the big boys. You will be able to take defeat in stride and learn from it each time it happens, and then rework it so that it becomes a winning experience for you. With time, patience, skill, knowledge of hands and play, it won't be long before you are confidently winning more pots than you are losing and making a name for yourself in the world of poker.
